I have been bringing my conceptual and sports photography together by creating “impossible shots”; views of a sport that you just can’t get in the real world. I’m photographing the subjects from angles and perspectives that at the least would be extremely difficult to capture, if not life threatening to try!
I applied this concept to Ski Jumper AJ Brown’s image. AJ grew up training at the Norge ski jump which is just 45 minutes north of Chicago and he is now training and competing with the US Ski Team in Park City. I approached him with the “in your face” idea of capturing his jump from an extremely close angle in order to see more than a body flying through the air. I wanted the viewer to be able to connect with the person. Not just the action.
